Wow...what a world of a difference the last two weeks have been. Makenzie's hand is healing really well but is still being kept wrapped until all of the burns are healed. I am afraid that she might become a lefty after all of this is over. Kylie's parent / teacher conference went really well last week. I wouldn't expect any less! The weather was absolutely beautiful last week but the cold returned this week. I am so ready for Spring and Summer and outdoors.

That was written on the 20th and I am just getting back to post some more....

Well Makenzie's hand has healed so well and this week she has been able to go to school without her bandages. She still has new skin growing but it looks amazing. This past weekend we had my sister-in-laws and cousin's husband's birthday party at our house and it turned out wonderful. Kylie has started back in softball and this is her second week of practice. It has been miserably cold at night during practice but she is absolutely loving it. Tomorrow we are taking her in to the dentist to have an x-ray done as her adult tooth in the front still has yet to come in. She lost both top front teeth at the same time before Christmas and one is almost all the way in and the other still has not even tried to come through. Who knows where it could be? =) Not much else happening in the Ferrero household. Looking forward to a quiet weekend and hopefully some warmer weather! Hope everyone has a wonderful week!

Not the kind of Excitement I was looking for....

I have to admit it has been difficult to get on here and write about anything lately. Things have been tough and not much has been happening. Last week Rian went back to work so we were very optimistic that things were on the up. We even headed up to see some friends of ours that we had not seen since New Year's Eve. The night was fun and the weather was perfect for hanging outside and a bonfire. Makenzie and I went to sleep early as we usually are the first in bed. She slept through the night (which we have had trouble with lately, not really sure why). The next morning we were outside having a smoke and commenting on how hot the fire coals still were. Rian went inside to use the restroom and I am still not sure on what exactly happened but at some point Makenzie tripped and fell backwards into the fire pit. I reacted quick enough that I was able to grab a hold of one side of her jacket at her shoulder and pull her back but that was not before her backside and right hand hit the hot coals. We were very lucky that she had a jacket on, a shirt and jeans as the back of her jacket did melt but was not able to get through her shirt and her jeans were fine minus some singe marks. Her hand though, did not fair so well. We took her to the emergency room and she has 2nd degree burns over most of the palm and fingers as well as wrist of her right hand. She was a trooper and had all the doctors and nurses in awe of how well she was doing despite the burns she had sustained. After getting cleaned. medicine (they also gave her Lortab for the pain and wow is that a site to see), and bandages Makenzie and Kylie both got a popsicle and stickers. She waved everyone bye when it was time to leave and blew kisses as well. She is one amazing little girl. We had to change her dressings last night and this morning and she was an absolute angel during both. She must keep everything wrapped for a week or until there is no open sores left due to such a high risk of infection in burns similar to hers. If infection develops than we have contact information for a burn center that the ER doctor gave us as well we brining her back to the ER for IV antibiotics. We are praying like crazy that does not happen! I also could not be more proud of Kylie. She was the best big sister and through all of the tears, Kylie held it together. Kylie has always been one to get upset when Makenzie was either hurt or getting shots, medicine, etc. I had to explain to Kylie that both mommy and daddy had to be in the room with Makenzie so she had to be brave also. She never once shed a tear and did a great job of keeping her entertained while we waited for one thing or another. All in all we were very lucky as it could have been much worse and Makenzie seems to be fine now and is adapting to using her left hand for things! Praise God!

On another sad note...last one for today...My parents are having our dog put to sleep today. He has been in congestive heart failure for some time but with the help of medicines he was able to enjoy many months of life. Unfortunately he has gotten to the point that his quality of life is no longer quality and they hate to see him suffer. He was only 8 years old but due to his breed type this is something that can happen at an early age. He was also diagnosed as a puppy with a heart murmur and we knew he could possibly have problems in the future. He will surely be missed by all.

On a happier note we have been enjoying beautiful weather and the girls have loved being outside lately. Rian has been able to get some yard work done and we are praying the weather stays nice or at least there are not too many more cold days ahead!

We hope that everyone is doing well and is having a Fantastic February!
