It has been a while since I have posted anything. Things have been rather calm around the Ferrero household. We celebrated Rian's 30th birthday on Saturday surrounded by 30 of our closest friends and family. We had planned a suprise dinner but when it came time to go Rian decided he didn't want to go to the particular restaurant that everyone was waiting for him at. Kylie said to him, "But daddy we have to go eat at ShoGun's, it's a secret!" So we ended up telling him. Dinner was wonderful and several people came back to the house and we played 31 all night. That has become our new game that we love to get together and play. Makenzie and Kylie are doing well although Kylie has been running a mysterious fever the past couple of days. Not sure what all that is about. There doesn't seem to be anything else wrong with her. Rian is hopefully going back to work in the next week so we are very excited about that. I know he is ready but I am sure it will be a big change having to get up at 4:45am again! I don't have much time today but I will try to post some more stuff before the weekend!

Potty training...Ahhhhh! I can't say that we are in the full swing of it but there is definitely an interest on Kenzie's part and I am happy to oblige her curiosity. I think she actually gets it but is having a hard time with understanding the process. It started a while ago with her just wanting her diaper off and to sit on her potty. Nothing ever happened but she was proud of the fact that she was doing it. Then around Christmas I decided to bring the toilet out to the living room one evening and let her go naked for a while and see if I could catch her to go on the toilet and maybe that would help to make it more clear. This went on for about 30 minutes of me making her sit on the toilet until she went potty. Nothing happened. I decided to step outside for a moment to have a cigarette and when I came back in she had done it!!!! She peed on the potty (although some got on the floor due to her not having herself all the way on the toilet). I was so proud! Kylie and I cheered and cheered making a very big deal out of it. We put her diaper back on (come to think of it, I may have told you guys this already...oh well) and 30 minutes later she was saying she had to go again. Rian said there is no way...she just went. I told him to take the diaper off and we would see. This time we did not make her stay on the toilet like we should have and as I was stringing the lights on the tree, I stepped in it. Yep, she had gone behind the tree and peed. There were no celebrations this time. So I have started letting her go on a more regular basis in the bathroom. The only thing is that no matter how long I make her sit on the toilet as soon as I leave to get a diaper thinking she is not going to go, she stands up and pees on the floor. It never fails. So I started acting like I was leaving and standing outside the door, she never peed but I swear as soon as I went to get the diaper she would pee. Just for the record, I seriously dislike potty training. Anyone have any miracle system for this? Other than that Makenzie is doing really well. Her leg is looking better and better every day which we are truly thankful for. Her personality is developing more and more everyday and she is quickly becoming her own little person. It amazes me how two kids can be born from the same parents, raised the same, and yet be so completely different.

Kylie is doing wonderful and continues to amaze me everyday in her knowledge and thirst for learning. She got her report card last week and of course it was excellent. They are not graded on a Letter scale yet so it is hard to explain except to say that she can't get much better. The two weeks alone since she has been back to school she has jumped two reading levels to level 16. Like I had mentioned before she only needed to be at 7 by this time of the year. Every evening she is the one who reminds me that she has homework that has to be done. She is also always the first to point out the time as her bedtime nears. If the clock hits 9:01 she starts running around saying "I have to get to bed, it's after 9:00!" She is definitely very dedicated to school and her learning, which makes my job that much more easier. She seems to keep growing and matureing far beyond her years. It is scary sometimes the things that come out of her mouth.

We are fast aproaching Rian's 30th birthday and it is hard to believe that I will be married to a man in his 30's! It is hard to believe that they are not that far off for myself either! It is even harder to believe that we have a 6 year old daughter and that our "baby" will be 2 in 4 months! Were has the time gone?...Where does it keep going?

One more thing before I say goodnight (Previous post below!) If you go back to my post on October 1st (you can find it on the right side of this post) you will remember me mentioning a little boy fighting Meduloblastoma. He is working on his ^^Angel Wings^^ and desperately needs our prayers. His family is absolutely amazing and their faith is unrelenting. Here is the latest update that I got. Please storm Heavens gates with prayers for this family, his parents, and his twin brother Caden...

"Updating from the Hospice House-
On New Year’s Eve Coleman woke before dawn with a lot of pain…he whimpered for hours in spite of the morphine I was able to get into his mouth through his clenched teeth. Scott and I were doing our best to keep him comfortable, but it was obvious we needed more than what we were able to do at home. Each time he would move just a little, he cried out in pain. It was a long few hours.
Our hospice nurse arrived and worked on getting some new meds for us that wouldn’t have to be oral…after much discussion, we decided to bring him to the hospice house where he was able to have his port accessed and they could give him the morphine through that- it made things so much easier. That drive was not a happy one, and we did our best to fight back a lot of tears on the way. Caden wondered WHY we were packing our bag AGAIN and WHERE we were going. We tried our best to explain- and stay positive about the whole thing for his sake.The staff here couldn’t have made the transition any easier… THEY ARE WONDERFUL! They took Caden right away and got him set up with a snack and showed him the toy room. He told them, “This house is nice, your toy room is very organized.” And after coming from the mess of Christmas still all over our floors, I’m sure it DID seem really organized to him! He still cracks us up and is the BEST medicine for us all. He's made himself right at home.
When we got here Coleman was pretty out of it…and unresponsive most of that day. He’d open his eyes and stare up into the corner of the room as we held his hand. We were just relieved he was at least resting comfortably. Since then he has rallied again- he never ceases to amaze us…as he used to say, “I’m one tough tookie- wight mommy?” The kid really does have the “Neva-div-up” attitude!
He’s slowly begun to eat- at first soft foods, but moved up to cheese pizza (tiny bites) and watermelon, and is drinking like a fish. He’s only able to say a few words here and there, and a lot of times they don’t make sense, but sometimes they do. Talking is a struggle for him, but he pushes on. He even wanted to color a picture last night! We keep telling him how proud we are of him and how much very much we love him. We’ve had a lot of visitors, but most of the time he pulls the blanket over his head…he says he doesn’t like everyone looking at him! :)It has to be on HIS terms. Some things NEVER change!
I swear each place we go the angels just keep coming! The staff here is beyond awesome! We can’t say enough about how much we appreciate each and every one of them. They came in and asked for a grocery list for the boys, cooked Coleman pizza, bought and cut up his watermelon, have played with and entertained Caden and they wait on us hand and foot. It's a beautiful house. A couple of wonderful ladies even came to do hand moldings we started yesterday…one of me holding Coleman’s hand, one of Caden and Coleman, and Daddy and Coleman. They take a few days to get finished, but I’ll post pics when they are. We have a beautiful room, (actually rooms), and are all very comfortable.
Caden is able to come and go with family and friends we have close, so he gets out a little during the day, but wants to make sure he comes here to sleep with US at night. He didn’t want to go with anyone today, so decided he wasn’t going to get dressed this morning- he thought if he stayed in his pajama’s all day he wouldn’t be able to leave! Which was fine, because it’s been kind of an ice storm here today, so pretty slippery out there- I'm glad we’re safe and warm and not driving in this.
We continue to take one day at a time- THANKING GOD for ALL of our many, MANY blessings and always trusting in Him, as we enjoy our time together. Each moment is a gift. We don’t know what the future holds, but we know God is carrying us.Again, the support showered on our family is overwhelming. Scott and I will never have enough words to say THANK YOU. Please know how much we appreciate your prayers and positive messages. I haven’t been on the computer much- most of my time is spent laying with Coleman, holding his hand, or playing with, snuggling and talking to Caden. He’s handling things the best he can…Scott and I are doing our best to answer his questions and remind him how much we love him.So that’s about all from here. Oh before I go, Please know that we’ve gotten MANY suggestions of things to try- remedies, places to take Coleman, etc.…it’s overwhelming to sort through them all, but we do appreciate everyone caring enough to share them… a lot of them are things we HAVE done, some are new, but Please don’t be offended if we haven’t gotten back to you on the suggestions- it isn’t because we don’t appreciate them- it’s just a time factor right now.Okay, I’m back to snuggling and praying…not just for Coleman, but for all the families riding this rollercoaster. Way too many kids- too many families. WE NEED A CURE.

The New Year is upon us and we are hoping to make 2009 the best yet! We hope that everyone had a wonderful holiday season! It is amazing to me how much preperation goes into them and they are over before you know it. We have managed to get all of our Christmas stuff put away except the tree. The ornaments are off but we just can't seem to let go of the tree and the beautiful lights! I am sure by the end of next weekend it will have to be done but I am holding on to the little Christmas beauty we have left for as long as I can. Makenzie had her appointment at the Dermatologist and he himself would have sworn it was some form of ring worm but also did not see it in the test they took. He is also not conviced that it is eczema either. He put her on a new gel that just seems to be drying her out and not really getting rid of it. Today she also has developed three spots on her face that I am not sure what they are either. They do not look like her leg but definitely do not look normal. We have a follow up appointment on Wednesday and depending on what he sees he said he may do an actual skin biopsy instead of just a scraping. We are praying that is not something that is going to continue to spread all over her beautiful self. We are just very thankful that my mom took the girls to have their pictures made this past weekend before the new stuff showed up on her face. (If you missed it, there are some edited pictures that I created in the previous post!) I know that some people have requested a family picture and we are working on getting that this month but I will be mailing some pictures of the girls out when they come in on the 16th! Kylie went back to school today and was glad to be back with her friends and her wonderful teacher! The day went well and she got back into the routine very easily! The scary thing is how Makenzie will do when it is time to go back to daycare. Rian has decided to look into a second night job (having faith that his daytime job picks back up). I am not sure how I feel about this but I know that something has to happen to ever be able to move out of Richard's house. We sure are praying that something turns around with the economy and the democrats keep up their promises! It is getting late and since I was not able to fall asleep until 2:30am last night I am going to "hit the hay"!
